Grandma Elephant: Lily's Rescue Story - ElephantNews

#elephant #elephantrescue #herd Every elephant we help has a story and a unique background — both the journey of the elephant and the journey of the family who has cared for them. Grandma Daoruang, or “Grandma Lily,” the new name lovingly given by her sponsor, is a very old elephant but still appears healthy because her previous owner took such good care of her. At this stage of her life, she can only eat soft foods. Elderly elephants require constant care, much like how we care for elderly family members at home. Because their teeth become so worn down, their diet must consist only of soft foods, as they no longer have the ability to masticate hard or fibrous foods. Caring for an elderly elephant requires a great deal of dedication. The workload easily doubles compared to caring for younger elephants. We must carefully monitor both their diet and overall health on a day-to-day basis. We would like to sincerely thank her previous owner for looking after her for so many years and for trusting us to welcome her into our care. This will be a warm and loving home — the final home for Grandma Lily. We promise to care for her well and make sure she remains happy and as healthy as possible for the rest of her life.
