Hyena greeting ceremony

They live in a complex society with strict social conventions based on the dominance relationship between individuals. When two individuals meet, they exhibit a “greeting” ceremony. They express signs of dominance or submission to confirm their hierarchical relationship or strengthen their friendship. This video shows such a greeting ceremony. The hyena on the left shows particularly clear signs of submission (head down, ears flat, teeth bared, tail in, bum low) because it is an intruder from a neighbouring clan, whereas the other is a resident individual and shows clear signs of dominance and assertiveness.
