This is the ending of CS Lewis's The Screwtape Letters. Although the 31st letter is the final one, the reason the book concludes with the 28th letter is because it vividly illustrates how the devil can deceive us. Satan can deceive us regardless of our wealth. The mission of the new devil, Wormwood, ends in failure. From a Christian perspective, this is a happy ending. However, from the world's perspective, it may seem like death and failure.
