This initiative, unusually, is being spearheaded by the legislative branch through the PASTEF parliamentary group. The text notably includes the creation of a Constitutional Court to replace the Constitutional Council, a strengthening of the National Assembly's prerogatives, a change in the relationship between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, and a ban on a head of state holding leadership positions within a political party. What institutional changes can this reform actually bring about? Can it strengthen checks and balances, or does it risk fueling a new political battle?
