CASO MASCARILLAS | El SUPREMO CONDENA a ÁBALOS a 24 AÑOS de CÁRCEL y a KOLDO GARCÍA a 19 | RTVE

The Supreme Court has sentenced former Minister of Transport and former Secretary of Organization of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party), José Luis Ábalos, to 24 years and three months in prison for the "Masks Case." The sentence, announced this Monday, also condemns his former advisor, Koldo García, to 19 years and eight months, and commission agent Víctor de Aldama to four and a half years in prison. All three were convicted of the crimes of organized crime, bribery, embezzlement, and influence peddling. In Aldama's case, the Supreme Court suspended the execution of the sentence due to his cooperation with the justice system in contributing to the discovery of the crimes, subject to a series of conditions: not committing any further offenses, submitting a semi-annual activity report, and performing one year of community service. The ruling, adopted unanimously and signed by Judge Andrés Martínez Arrieta, concludes that the three defendants formed a criminal organization with a division of roles that committed serious acts of corruption. In the 224-page ruling, the judge found proven the crimes related to the awarding of a contract to supply 13 million face masks to Puertos del Estado (State Ports Authority) and Adif (Spain's railway infrastructure manager) to a company linked to Aldama, and the monthly payment of €10,000 to Ábalos for "fixed expenses." The court also found proven the hiring of Jessica Rodríguez, the former minister's ex-partner, and Claudia Montes, a personal friend, at public companies. The payment for Jessica Rodríguez's apartment was also proven.
