Dispatches: Hotel Street Photography | Singapore — Commercial Assignment EP. 9

Hotel Indigo Katong in Singapore hired me before the hotel even opened. No rooms, no lobby, no models. Just me and the neighborhood of Katong shooting street photography, portraits, and travel images that would live on the hotel website and as large scale prints throughout the property. This was one of the most creatively unusual commercial assignments I have taken on. The brief was essentially to document a neighborhood the way a photojournalist would, but for a luxury hotel brand. Those two worlds do not always sit comfortably together and navigating that tension is what this episode is about. I walk through how I approached the storytelling, how I used natural light to keep everything feeling authentic, how I balanced creative freedom with client expectations, and what it actually looks like to deliver editorial style images in a commercial context. If you want to understand how documentary photography crosses over into commercial work this is a good one.
