This moment of independence is inseparable from the role of veterans who fought against colonialism for the independence of the Indonesian nation. To honor these veterans, the Director of Assessment and Development at the Army Staff and Command College (Seskoad), Brigadier General Achmad Fauzi, visited several war veterans' homes in Bandung. The visit coincided with the 77th Indonesian Independence Day on Wednesday (August 17, 2022). Together with the West Java Indonesian Student Association (IJTI) and Volunteer 45, Achmad Fauzi visited one of the veterans' homes in the Cigadung area, Cibeunying Kaler District, after attending the August 17th ceremony at his office. There, Fauzi met with Engkos Sutisna, a 107-year-old veteran who was directly involved in the struggle against Dutch colonialism. "Today, August 17, 2022, we commemorate the 77th Indonesian Independence Day. To commemorate this, the Army Staff and Command (Seskoad) is sharing their enthusiasm with the fighters who contributed to Indonesia's independence," said Fauzi. "On this 77th anniversary, we are sharing our enthusiasm by providing assistance and donations, so they will be more motivated," he continued. After visiting Engkos' residence, Fauzi and his entourage then visited an apartment complex in the Rancacili area of ​​Bandung. There, he met with five veterans living there. According to Fauzi, on this 77th Indonesian Independence Day, the nation's future generations must be able to continue the struggle of the veterans. Today, Fauzi visited around 15 veterans. "We hope that as the next generation, we can continue their struggle. We visited 15 fighters today," he said. On that occasion, Fauzi also expressed his admiration for the veterans, who still looked enthusiastic despite their advanced age. He said the average age of veterans in Bandung is over 94 years old. "They are on average over 94 years old, with the oldest being Mr. Engkos Sutisna, 107. They are still enthusiastic, and we must inherit their spirit to do our best for the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Fauzi. "Finally, my hope is that Indonesia can recover faster and rise stronger, the spirit of my Indonesia," he concluded.
