Reviews: A swashbuckling proto-superhero movie in the sword bearing tradition of Zorro, this sequel of sorts to The Count of Monte Cristo was made by the same team that made the previous year’s The Man in the Iron Mask. It also includes the same lead actors Louis Hayward and Joan Bennett, who both once again give tremendous performances. A wonderful adventure film with a sharp wit and tight pace. I was delighted to hear the very familiar voice of young Clayton Moore, who would go on (with deeper resonance) to portray one of my favorites, The Lone Ranger, on television in the 1950s, and who played the young Lt. Dorner in this film. I had heard that this was one of QT’s favorite movies and I can see why.
