Sejarah dan Fungsi Lembaga Wali Nanggroe di Aceh

The Aceh government and the central government then agreed to establish the Wali Nanggroe institution through Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Governance of Aceh. The Wali Nanggroe institution was officially established in 2013, exactly eight years after the peace agreement. This institution, a symbol of unity for the Acehnese people, plays a crucial role in maintaining harmony and security stability in Aceh following the MoU. The Wali Nanggroe institution is headed directly by former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) Prime Minister Teungku Malik Mahmud Al Haythar, who is respected and considered a symbol of unity for the Acehnese people in preserving Acehnese customs and cultural values. The Wali Nanggroe also participates in strategic decision-making processes related to development and peace policies in Aceh. As a respected institution, the Wali Nanggroe holds authority in various aspects, including the granting of noble titles, mediation in social conflicts, and protection of Acehnese customs and culture. This uniqueness distinguishes Aceh from other provinces in Indonesia, where the Wali Nanggroe institution has become a vital pillar in Acehnese life.
