Gaming on WinBetas (Episode 1: CHICA73G)
Can you actually game on a pre-beta operating system from 1993? Today we are diving deep into the archives to test Windows Chicago Build 73g (Milestone 5, leaked in late 1993). This incredibly early version of what would eventually become Windows 95 introduces us to the brand new Taskbar and "File Cabinet" explorer UI, but it comes at a cost: supreme instability. Because we are trying to force MS-DOS and early 16-bit games to run on an unfinished, experimental kernel, we end up spending more time hanging out with Dr. Watson than actually playing games! Watch as Microsoft's iconic, clipboard-wielding built-in debugger struggles to take memory snapshots and log the absolute chaos we throw at it. Will Doom survive? Will the OS completely implode? Let’s find out.
