The Beatles 45s at 33 1/3 RPM Series - I Am The Walrus

When I was a child, I loved all my records, but I loved my Beatles records most of all. And after I had played them each a million times, I would sometimes push the little lever on my Westinghouse portable phonograph from 45 to 33 and play them again. I found that listening experience to be satisfying in its own way (playing them at 78 sounded too cartoonish, though moving the speed lever out of gear and manually playing them backwards was often interesting). I've created this series of videos so other might share in my nostalgia. I've tracked down as many original Capitol 45s in reasonable shape as I could. I didn't do this because Capitol 45s from the 1960s sound good -- they don't -- but because that is the sound I heard while growing up. And if I could have found a Westinghouse phonograph exactly like the one I had, I would have mic'ed up the speaker and recorded the audio that way. But instead, I used a Fisher MT-730 linear tracking turntable with a conical stylus (I'm told that's best for playing styrene 45s, which is what Capitol 45s are). The signal runs through a 15-band EQ that I've tweaked using a test record for flat response, even though it adds noise to the signal. Adobe Audition 1.5 was my recording software and I did declick these recordings.
