On the morning of June 25th, a newspaper delivery store's parking lot suddenly collapsed in Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture, causing a 3-ton truck to fall into the hole. Reporter Yuna Kanazawa: "This is in Ariake-cho, Shimabara City. There's a hole in front of the store large enough for a car to fit completely inside." The accident occurred in the parking lot of a newspaper delivery store in Omihigashi, Ariake-cho, Shimabara City. Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on June 25th, a 49-year-old man driving a 3-ton truck used for recycling paper called the police, saying, "When I tried to move and backed up, the ground collapsed. I've escaped." According to the police, the parking lot was built on sloping ground, with the lower part supported by steel beams. A hole about 2 to 3 meters in diameter and 1 to 1.5 meters deep had opened up in the parking lot, and the left tire of the truck fell in, leaving it stuck at an angle of about 45 degrees. It is believed that the steel beams supporting the concrete of the parking lot had deteriorated and broken under the weight of the truck.
