Like Mickiewicz, he sought to show that it's never too late for change. An internal struggle and a strong resolve to improve can cleanse even the gravest sins. This applies not only to the central character of the work. The attitude of the nobility presented in the novel also changes. Initially, the Sarmatians focus on their own well-being, and for this reason, many of them decide to support the Swedish side.
