This week the WaveTalkers Crews takes on the challenge of showing you how to Set-up a Hybrid Winlink Gateway using RMS Relay. A hybrid winlink gateway is able to pass winlink traffic during a grid down event when no internet connection is available. A hybrid gateway requires a solid HF station and an experienced operator. This episode should be of interest to all Winlink and Ham Radio operators to see how the hybrid Winlink Radio Network can operate during a grid down scenario. We plan to walk through a live demonstration during the show of Sending traffic through a hybrid gateway without access to the internet. This will include both HF and VHF/UHF traffic in an attempt to demonstrate the capabilities of a Winlink Hybrid Gateway. We ask all operators to please refrain from sending winlink traffic through the W6AH VARA HF Gateway or W6AH-10 VARA FM Gateway during the LIVE Show unless you have emergency or priority traffic. To become a Hybrid Winlink SysOp, we will assume you are already an experienced HF SysOp using VARA HF or Pactor. Although not required, we strongly recommend operators begin with a VHF/UHF and HF Winlink Gateway to gain initial experience as a Winlink SysOp AND become be very comfortable operating on HF before embarking on setting up a Hybrid Winlink Gateway.
