Goats, Singing and Politics - a Journey to Cape Clear Island

Ed Harper has farmed on Cape Clear for over forty years. In this time, many visitors have made films about his goats and island lifestyle. Few have focussed on Ed's remarkable memorised collection of folk songs or drawn attention to his Marxist politics. If you're interested in helping Ed on his farm you can apply through WWOOF Ireland. Milking and farm duties are performed seven days a week. Ed also needs help around the house and with preparing lunch and dinner. He has a preference for the English classics but will happily eat anything but beetroot. The opening music in this film is taken from recordings of live sessions in Kerry. The music playing on the stereo in the background is performed by Tom Madden and taken from a self-published CD I found in Ed's collection. It doesn't appear to be anywhere else on the internet. I filmed this using a Sony a6300 mounted on a Zhiyun Crane 2 Gimbal and recorded the audio using a BOYA BY-MM1 microphone. It was edited using the free version of Davinchi.
