Walking the Battlefield: Lateswald Trenches near Nennig
In this 10-minute video in the 'Walking the Battlefield' Series, author Wim Schelberg walks the Lateswald battlefield near Nennig, Germany, late November 2019. When the 94th Infantry Division attacked the hamlets of Nennig, Berg, and Wies, end of January, 1945, they had to get uphill and into these elaborate German trench systems. Controlling Nennig, and controlling the northwest part of the Lateswald, was key to linking up the saillants between Tettingen and Nennig, and preparing for the next push, towards the Remich-Sinz Highway, the Unterste Büsch, and Sinz itself. The video shows what remains of these former German field defenses, fighting and communication trenches, observation posts and MG-positions along the southern edge of the northwestern part of the Lateswald. ----- #94thInfantryDivision #ww2documentaries #worldwar2heroes #USArmyHistory #WW2Footage #militaryhistory #94thID #WW2Veterans #historicalfootage #WorldWar2Education #WW2UnitHistory #ww2soldiers #ww2archive #usmilitaryhistory #rememberingww2 #WW2Research #94thInfantry #WW2Memories #WW2Educational #dday #ww2 #94thinfantrydivision #1944 #1945 #eto #wwii #wwiihistory #ww2history #Germany1945 #battlefield #battlefieldresearch #research #thenandnow
