Types of bone joints. Bone joints are divided into two large groups: fibrous joints and synovial joints or joints. Fibrous joints are when bones are connected to each other by connective tissue (dense connective tissue, cartilage or bone). We include the following fibrous joints: syndesmosis, sutures, wedging, fontanelles, synchondrosis and symphysis. The second large group of joints is synovial joints or joints. They, in turn, can be simple or complex. Each joint has three main elements: articular cartilage, joint capsule and joint cavity. In addition to the main elements, joints can also have auxiliary ones. These are ligaments, articular discs, articular menisci.
