Harvest Log Day 3

More harvest in the dust noise and hot temperatures as we push on through the winter barley crop. Yields have picked up on heavier soils which is a huge relief, still below our average but not a disaster with the spend incurred to get them to this point. The small elephant footprint sized divots you can see in the crop is wheat dwarf virus infection that has killed off areas of the field, a virus transmitted by leaf hoppers. Something we need to learn from for future years and potentially warmer climate sending different challenges our way. It’s a dusty day with the SCU (Redekop - Seed Control Unit) milling any weed seeds left on the plants.
