No Tourists Here: The Forgotten Fortresses of Uzbekistan (Khiva to Bukhara)

We explored a lesser-known place in Uzbekistan that not many people talk about, the Khorezm region, home to the famous Ellik-Qala, which means “Fifty Fortresses.” While we were in Khiva, we had different options to travel to Bukhara. One of the options was to take a longer route through the desert to visit these ancient fortresses, and we couldn’t miss it. In this video, we take you to see: Kyzyl Kala, the Red Fortress Toprak Kala, an ancient city complex that was once the capital of Khorezm Ayaz Kala, the most impressive fortress in Uzbekistan Kavat Kala, a hidden gem rarely visited by tourists Guldursun Kala, the largest fortress in the region We also stopped at Akhchakol Lake, known locally as the Money Lake, a small salt lake surrounded by legends. These fortresses were built over 2,000 years ago to protect the oasis settlements from invasions, and today they remain as silent reminders of Uzbekistan’s rich history.
