She was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the young woman's murder, despite the lack of biological evidence and witnesses. The prosecution created a profile of the "perfect killer" based on her cold personality, her character, and her homosexuality. They portrayed it as a "crime of passion" that dominated news broadcasts and front pages, creating a media lynching that socially condemned her. The accused spent 519 days in prison, harassed, assaulted, and isolated. She was finally released when the real killer was discovered. It was one of the biggest errors committed by the Spanish justice system. Despite her innocence being proven, Vázquez had to flee to the United Kingdom, where she lived for years. The real killer, Tony Alexander King, continues to serve his sentence in prison.
