(Old) Pop Up Camper Drill Roof Raising!
Cranking up the roof on an old pop up camper is not a lot of fun. It takes over 60 cranks to raise the roof on our old Coleman Columbia and requires a lot of bending to reach the access pin. After seeing other folks using a drill I had to figure this out. These old pop ups require a drill with a lot of torque. I tried four drills until finding one that had enough strength. The drill that worked best for me is a Hitachi 9amp, 1/2" chuck and cost about $80 at Lowes. The drill has an incredible amount of torque. I like to start off slow and then speed up as the roof starts to move. A string or other indicator would be a good idea to stop before reaching the full extension and then finish off with the hand crank. The drill crank was purchased here: https://colemanpopupparts.com/collect... Thanks for taking a look!
