In August 1981, in a village near Ryazan, after an evening of partying, two 19-year-old girls—the daughters of the local military commissar and the head of the traffic police—disappear without a trace. Police and rescue teams are alerted to the search, along with hunters, fishermen, and ordinary residents. The situation is brought under control in Moscow. Investigators are pressed for immediate results. But the detectives have no evidence. The only chance to solve the case is to reconstruct the events of that fateful evening, minute by minute.
