It is built on the shores of the Saronic Gulf. Together with the islet of Hydrousa, they constitute the Municipal Unit of Vouliagmeni, located in the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni. Its population, according to the 2011 census, is 4,180. It is one of the most expensive areas in Greece. Vouliagmeni was initially a tourist area, where large hotel units gradually developed. The settlement administratively belonged to the community of Koropi until 1929. From 1929 to 1935, it was a settlement of the community of Vari, while from 1935 it was a separate community. The community of Vouliagmeni was recognized as a municipality in 1985. The municipality of Vouliagmeni remained until 2010, when it was abolished with the implementation of the Kallikrates program and merged with the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni. The settlement of Vouliagmeni, due to the growing residential expansion of the southern suburbs, has now merged with the urban complex of Athens. In recent decades, Vouliagmeni has become the most expensive area of ​​the southern suburbs of Attica for housing and one of the most expensive in Europe. Vouliagmeni's beaches have consistently held Blue Flags for many years, due to their excellent water quality and high level of infrastructure.
