Ergogenic Aids: Supplements and Athletic Performance
In this BPK 110 nutrition lecture, we examine common ergogenic aids and evaluate the strength of the scientific evidence supporting their use. We discuss: • Creatine • Caffeine • Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) • HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate) For each supplement, we review proposed mechanisms, research findings, and where the evidence is strongest — and where it is less convincing. The goal of this session is to build critical thinking skills around supplement claims and performance nutrition. For a deeper foundation in sports nutrition and supplement evaluation, see Essential Nutrition, the textbook used in this course: https://dianabedoya.thrivecart.com/es...
