Homemade Spalted Birch Surfboard Fins - Fin Friday
In this Fin Friday video, I build a wooden thruster set surfboard fins. From 1/4" fin panels, I made from a fallen birch tree. I didn't film the process of turning the log into a fin panel but I'll do that in another video. The wooden thruster set is made from spalted birch and glassed with epoxy and three 6oz layers of fiberglass on both sides of the fins. This will make for a stiffer thruster set but should make the fins really strong. The fiberglass is all offcuts I have saved from when I have glassed my surfboards. I have some shaping videos as well on my channel if you would like to see that process. Fin Friday is a series I will be doing where I build various types of surfboard fins from different materials. Some fins will be experimental and some will be more standard. The fins will be made mostly from wood but I'll try to make some fins more experimental materials to use. Videos are posted on Fridays, might be every Friday or every other, will depend on how much time I've had to film and edit the process. #diy #woodworking #surfing
