DIY Extension Build: Heatwave, Floods & Foundation Stress

The heatwave stopped the build... but that wasn't the biggest problem. After temperatures reached 38°C, we took a much-needed break before returning to the extension, only to cut the house water supply... twice! Now everything depends on whether Building Control approves the foundations. The UK heatwave may have stopped work on the extension, but the drama was only just beginning... With temperatures reaching 38°C, it was simply too hot to spend the day digging foundations, so we took the opportunity to slow down and enjoy a rare break. We escaped to a hidden river for a refreshing swim before heading back to the meadow, where I show you a brilliant way to discover whether barn owls are living nearby using the free Merlin Bird ID app. Back on site, things quickly took a turn for the worse. While disconnecting the old foul drainage run for the new extension, Dan accidentally cut the water supply to the house. After a quick repair and the installation of a new stop tap, we thought the worst was behind us... until I managed to hit exactly the same water pipe while digging the foundation trenches! Thankfully, we got everything repaired and the foundations were finally dug out, but now comes the moment I've been worrying about. Will Building Control approve the trenches, or will I have to start all over again? You'll have to watch until the end to find out.
