Rivian R1S Overlanding Tour: Quad Motor, Mods, Custom Storage & Rear Spare Tire Carrier

While camping at the Toyo Tires Trail Pass event, I got a closer look at my friend Sean's meticulously built Gen 1 Quad Motor R1S—and this thing is the definition of camp-ready! Sean walked me through his incredible, non-permanent slide-out cargo system in the rear. It’s a genius custom setup that uses 3D-printed risers to level the floor and slides out to reveal his entire camp kitchen. The setup features a dual-zone fridge/freezer, all powered by a separate Blueetti power station. The best part? It’s easily removable, so he can get his third-row seat back when he's done camping! He also showed off his hitch-mounted spare tire carrier—the perfect solution for keeping the spare out of the cargo area while still allowing full access to the trunk thanks to the swing-out arm. Finally, we looked at his rooftop tent setup. He's running three crossbars and had to use washers to level out the rear two bars to clear the middle one due to the R1S's roofline—a great hack for anyone running a heavy tent!
