While attending university, he became a monk under Master Koike Shinso of Ryuun-in Temple in Hakusan, Tokyo. In 1987, he graduated from the University of Tsukuba and trained under Master Minato Sodo of Kennin-ji Temple in Kyoto. In 1991, he trained under Adachi Daishin Roshi at Engakuji Temple in Kamakura. In 1999, he became the head priest of the Engakuji Temple monastery (current position). In 2010, he became the head priest of the Engakuji School of the Rinzai sect (current position). In 2017, he became the president of Hanazono University. His books include "Prayer's Ten Verses on the Kannon Sutra for Enlivening Life" and "A Drop of the Buddha's Heart" (both published by Shunjusha), "Since Life Is Never Done Again, Let's Smile Today" (PHP Institute), "Zen Words to Illuminate Life" (Chichi Publishing), "Iroha Ni Ho He To (I-3)" (edited by Engakuji Kojirin, Engakuji Temple), and many others.
