Mt. Odake (大岳山) is roughly two hours away from Central Tokyo and is a convenient day hike destination for people seeking an escape from the metropolis. If you're up for more challenge, once you reach the peak of the mountain, traverse to the nearby peak, Mt. Nokogiri and to Okutama Station. To get there from Shinjuku Station, ride the Chuo Line for Ome and get off at Mitake Station. Then, take the bus to the Mitake Cable Car Station, take the cable car, and start hiking!
