AIM Surplus JTT Ported Barrel / Compensator
On this channel we've done quite a few videos on different ported barrel and compensator options. Compensators and Ported barrels definitely have their tradeoffs, but what if you could buy a solution that was the best of both worlds? That's what makes the Aim Surplus JTT line of barrels interesting. JTT stands for Just the Tip, while some may read it as a funny euphemism, it is also technically accurate. The barrel protrudes just enough out of the slide and it is ported at the tip of the barrel. As such it is technically a ported barrel, but it doesn't require windows to be cut into the slide in order for it to work, and it doesn't have ports that run in the middle of the barrel rifling. Similarly, being a lower profile, it doesn't add much in way of discomfort if concealed carrying. Functionally it is closer to a compensator in that it creates a small chamber at the end of the barrel redirecting gas upwards. I would say it has an effect most similar to micro compensators like the griffin micro carry comp or even the radian ramjet. That is to say, the Aimsurplus JTT trades off performance as a compensator in favor of concealability and comfort primarily, yet without needing to dirty up the gun the way ported barrels with windowed slides do. It doesn't kick back as many particles, bullet fragments, and gas into the air as comps and other ports typically do, meaning your probably eating less of the cancer sandwich. But i'd also make the argument that with the minimalist design, it actually is still, a very reliable barrel. Compensators in particular can be finicky with different loads of ammo. I tested the JTT with 5 different brands of 9mm and different bullet weights, 115, 124 and 147 grain. So far I have about 350 rounds through it. While it isn't a huge round count, I haven't had any malfunctions yet. Aesthetically the barrel is surprisingly nice. I picked one up for my Glock 34 in burnt bronze finish and I love the way it looks with that pistol. Does it reduce felt recoil? I believe that it does a little bit. The Glock 34 is already pretty flat shooting so it is hard to tell. But I could anecdotally feel a difference, and doing quick double tap drills where you go one to the body and one to the head, I felt the gun didn't lift as much as it would with a normie barrel. Now I know some of you guys are concerned about ported barrels or comps for other reasons. There is a lot of talk about the fireball from the comp blinding you if shooting at night. I shot with this barrel at open gym during a night session. I did not ever feel like I was being blinded or anything from the muzzle flash. I didn't notice it any differently than shooting any other 9mm pistol at night. It isn't a flash bang guys don't overthink it. I'm sure it would matter if you carry a gun as part of your job. For others yet, it might be important to stay camouflaged while liberating grandma's basement. I don't know your context. But it's true, muzzle flash can be seen far away at night. However, most or neay all Americans own firearms for home defense or concealed carry primarily, and in our context with a pistol I don't think this is really a consideration you should spend time worrying about. That said it is louder than non ported barrels but not quite as loud as compensators or more aggressive porting. So am I jumping to replace all my barrels with these? Honestly no, I'm not fully sold on it yet. My Glock 34 is normally a tack driver. My grouping was acceptable with the first shots with this barrel, albeit a little low after swapping with my regular barrel. However, a quick elevation adjustment and it was dialed in. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of this, but towards the end of my recent range session, I noticed I was getting some flyers and honestly I wasn't sure if it was me or the barrel. For that reason I'm not really sold on this barrel yet, but I'm cautiously optimistic with some more testing. If you have experience with this barrel I'd love to hear more about it in the comments. If you're on the fence for the $60 price tag I think it's worth checking out. Hopefully you got something out of this video, if you did please consider subscribing to the channel, we have more competition shooting related content coming. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, [3] for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. [4] And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
