Prayer of St. Francis Music: Ryan Cayabyab Lyrics: Fr. Esther Bouquerel (1855–1923) Many composers have written pieces setting this prayer, this version was written by renowned Filipino composer Ryan Cayabyab. He is an ingenious musician and not only is he a conductor and composer but also a master pianist and singer. His works are very diverse, ranging from pop songs and film soundtracks to ballets and masses. At age 24, he was one of the “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” awardees in the Philippines. Cayabyab’s talent and performances are unparalleled inside the Philippines and beyond; he has worked with over 20 music groups, and performed in places all over the world. In the song, the prayer asks God for peace and compassion even in the face of hatred, doubt, and injury, vowing to counter the troubles of life with understanding, love, and pardon.
