ONCAT Connect + Learn: Changing Lives with PLAR

ONCAT Connect + Learn welcomes Fanshawe College's Christine Spicer, Manager of Quality Partnerships, and Kristen Young, Bulk PLAR Project Coordinator. In 2024, Fanshawe College developed a more flexible and efficient way of recognizing prior learning. Workers in early childhood and educational support settings can receive 75% credit towards a diploma for their prior work experience. This new model has paved the way for learners who never imagined themselves in postsecondary education. Christine and Kristen share what an efficient and flexible PLAR process can look like, how Fanshawe uses program learning outcomes to conduct PLAR assessments, how their team collaborated with faculty and subject matter experts, and the challenges and lessons they experienced along the way.
