30 Years of Java... The Journey Continues by Sharat Chander
May 23, 1995 saw the launch of not just a new programming language and an entire development and deployment platform, but also the beginnings of the largest developer community on the planet. Initially targeted at the brand-new world of browsers and the World Wide Web, it quickly became the de facto standard for enterprise-grade applications designed to be highly performant, scalable, and secure. Thirty years later, Java remains a leading technology that powers the world. How did this happen? Let's take a whirlwind tour of Java’s history, recalling many of the milestones along the way and highlighting how the Java community played and continues to play an important role in ensuring the language stays vibrant for the next thirty years and beyond. Speaker: Sharat Chander Sharat Chander has worked in the IT industry for over 25 years for firms including Bell Atlantic, Verizon, Sun Microsystems, and Oracle. With a background in Java development tools, Sharat continues to lead Oracle's engagement initiatives globally to ensure the Java community stays vibrant. He is a frequent inspirational keynote speaker at recognized Java conferences like Devnexus, Devoxx, JavaZone, J-Fall, and Jfokus, and he actively engages with over 400 Java User Groups around the world. When not increasing visibility of the Java community, Sharat follows his passion for baseball by actively coaching Little League baseball teams and fanatically following his hometown team, the Baltimore Orioles. #Java #Java30 #JVM #DeveloperTools #IntelliJIDEA Join us: Website: https://jb.gg/website Blog: https://jb.gg/blog X: https://x.com/intellijidea Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/intellijidea...
