OMHC - Grayson Highlands State Park (4K) April 13-14, 2024

#appalachiantrail #hiking #backpacking #OMHC This hike was intended to be a two day two night hike hiking a mile and a half in Friday night to camp, then hiking to another campsite on Saturday. However, when we arrived at the parking lot we were greeted with temperatures in the lower 30's, wind gusts of up to 55 MPH and with falling snow and ice. So, we retreated to a little town 45minutes away (West Jefferson) and grabbed a motel room for the night figuring the weather would be more favorable on Saturday morning. Arriving at the park Saturday morning we were greeted with pretty much the same conditions we left Friday night. With the promise of better weather towards the middle and end of day, we hiked on! This was really a tale of two adventures, hiking in snow and at times almost blizzard like conditions only to finish in much warmer sunny temperatures.
