8-4: The History of Super Mario Bros.' Most Optimised Level
8-4 is a level that has been optimised to its breaking point by a handful of speedrunners over the past few years. Here are their stories. Co-written by iBall1_ With help from Kosmic and Taven Webb Inspired by Summoning Salt Side note: Since there aren't any surviving videos of the fastest 8-4s from before 2013 or so, the early videos I show in this are more to show how strategies evolved over time and how runners got more consistent, not to say "this was the definitive fastest time". Also, GTAce99 had a run that was tied with Taven entering water in December 2019. This completely slipped my mind while making this, but it's still very significant as that was the first ever time anyone had tied Taven into water. Edit: As of 17/07/2020, top 5 now requires a 44.360 or better, as GTAce99 got one too. Pretty insane given that only three months ago there was only one .360, and top 5 was barely a 44.3xx.
