Today's episode of the "Jak ona to robi" podcast features a special guest: The Dorota, Mister D., a Wejherowo-born prophetess from Ochota, aka Dorota Masłowska – writer, vocalist, columnist, and occasional DJ. At nineteen, she shattered the Polish literary establishment with her "Wojna Polskę-Russka pod flagą biały (Polish-Russian War Under the White-Red Flag), followed by "Peacock of the Queen," which earned her the Nike Award, and, most recently, "Magiczna rana" (Magic Rana). There have been plays, albums, and music videos by Mister D. and Dorota. Talking with Dorota, we fall into the rabbit holes and foxholes of literature and life, exploring what remains of Wejherowo in today's Masłowska (a pull to the sea?) and why chaotic and unpretty Warsaw continues to inspire her. We examine the unique case of her literary career, "which grew out of a rock," as Dorota herself puts it, and what it was like to grow as a person and develop as a writer before the eyes of observers. We discuss the nature of this "magical wound" called writing, whether a writer's life exists outside of literature and what it is filled with, and why moments of public disapproval, though painful, are liberating. We also discuss whether Masłowska will write a new short story, "Anna Sańczuk and the Fox," the seed of which spontaneously emerged during this conversation.
