METRO OPERATING HOURS Monday to Thursday and Sunday: The metro runs from 5:30 AM to 12:30 AM Friday and Saturday: Operating hours are extended to 2:00 AM TICKET COST Basic Ticket Full Price: €0,60 Reduced Price: €0,30 The basic ticket is valid for 70 minutes from its validation upon the first boarding, allowing unlimited journeys on the metro within this time frame. For now, you can’t use the same metro ticket to board a public bus, even within a given time. You’ll have to buy a separate bus ticket. This frequency will be reduced to 90 seconds by the end of 2025, with the completion of the expansion line to Kalamaria. THE TIME IT TAKES The underground journey on a Thessaloniki Metro train from one end of the city to the other - from Nea Elvetia to the New Railway Station - takes 17 minutes, including stops at all 13 stations. The average speed of each train is 40 km/h, with a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Therefore, each passenger will need just 40 seconds to travel from one station to the next. The 18 trains on the main line, which operate without a driver, can accommodate 465 passengers (both seated and standing).
