What Is the Soul?

The most important subject in all of spiritual study is the one most people are least equipped to discuss. The soul. Ask a priest and get a doctrine. Ask a philosopher and get a definition. Ask most modern people and get an embarrassed pause. None of those responses engage with what is actually there. The soul is not simple. It has never been simple. Every tradition that has examined it carefully arrived at the same conclusion: the soul is a nested hierarchy of different aspects, different vehicles, different levels of consciousness — not one thing but many things, operating simultaneously.
