July 3rd: Saint Thomas — The Apostle Who Doubted and Became the Great Witness of the Resurrection
Today is July 3rd — the feast day of Saint Thomas the Apostle. And on this sacred day, we invite you to enter one of the most extraordinary stories the Church has ever preserved. Not the story of a man who was always certain, always fearless, always unwavering. But the story of a man who asked the hardest question, who refused easy answers, who stood in the darkness of doubt and emerged — not broken — but transformed into the most complete confession of faith in the entire New Testament. History remembers him as "Doubting Thomas." The Church remembers him as the Apostle who, with his own lips, first declared before the Risen Christ: "My Lord and my God." Four words. The highest act of faith recorded in the Gospel of John. Spoken not by Peter, not by John, not by Mary Magdalene — but by the man who had refused to believe without seeing. That paradox alone tells you everything about the mercy of God. He was one of the Twelve chosen by Jesus of Nazareth. He walked the dusty roads of Galilee and Judea. He witnessed the miracles, heard the teachings, shared the bread. And when the cross came, like all the others, he was shattered. But what happened eight days after the Resurrection would change him — and through him, change the world. From the hills of Galilee to the shores of the Arabian Sea, Thomas would carry the Gospel to the ends of the known earth, and seal his testimony with his blood.
