東京で局地的豪雨、一時「レベル4大雨危険警報」も…　マンホールから噴き上がる水、道路の水が店内に

On July 17th, the Kanto region experienced localized heavy rainfall. In some areas of Tokyo, a Level 4 heavy rain warning was issued, and in Adachi Ward, water gushed violently from multiple manholes due to the heavy rain. Hachioji City also experienced record-breaking heavy rainfall. From the morning, clouds spread across Tokyo, and the influx of warm, humid air resulted in a scorching summer day temperature of 30.8°C in central Tokyo. The rising temperature caused atmospheric instability in various parts of Tokyo from around midday, leading to localized heavy rain. Shortly after noon, a Level 4 heavy rain warning was temporarily issued for Adachi Ward, Edogawa Ward, and Hachioji City. In Hachioji City, a record-breaking 64 mm of extremely heavy rain fell in one hour. Multiple roads in Hachioji City were flooded, and a golf equipment store in the city reported that water surged in from the road every time a car passed, temporarily flooding the store. When I visited the store in the evening, I saw tree branches and fallen leaves that appeared to have been shoveled out from inside the storefront, and muddy water still remained inside, showing the traces of the heavy rain. The store remained open for business while the staff were busy with recovery work, such as wiping down the floor. The store manager said, "When I looked outside, the water had reached the asphalt (of the sidewalk), and every time a car passed by, there was a huge splash (of water rushing in). We eventually closed the shutters, but it was no use, and water kept coming in from below." He added, "It was terrible. It's not just in the past tense. It's going to be tough from now on." There were no injuries at the store and the goods were undamaged, but the telephone line was broken due to the heavy rain, and there is no prospect of it being restored. The Kanto region is expected to have unstable atmospheric conditions again on the 18th, so it is necessary to be careful of sudden changes in weather.
