Skagit Casting Made Easy
https://vimeo.com/ondemand/ultimatesk... The Double Spey using a high slow sweep is a very easy Skagit Cast for new Casters as well as advanced casters for steelhead or Trout spey.. This cast is so simple and effective. It is definitely skagit casting made easy. That's why I love it so much. 0:00 Anchor Placement: Set the Anchor, close. I want the anchor within a rod length at the time of the forward cast, when the fly blasts off out of the water. 0:09 After setting the Anchor I set my rod on my left shoulder to begin the sweep. 0:11 High slow sweep 0:22 Skagit Double Spey Cast This is the perfect video for the rank beginner the trouble caster or the intermediate caster working to improve...This is a very solid Skagit casting lesson. it can be used whether you’re casting an OPST commando head, a Rio Skagit Max, and airflow fist, or an airflow rage, or any of the airflow compact skagit lines or Rio Skagit lines. This video is just flat out Skagit casting 101 for large flies. Ed Ward was very instrumental in my learning to Skagit cast over the Internet. For river right this could be one of my top two casts for winter steelheading or summer Fish with a Spey rod and with the sink tip, particularly heavy sink tips and big flies using skagit lines. If you want to cast large flies learn to Skagit cast and learn the high slow sweep, out and around and over the top. Using this technique for the Skagit double spey, when Done properly the entire Skagit line is out of the water for the sweep and only part of the sink tip and a fly stay in the water throughout the entire sweep. The forward cast, it Has to be done before the sink tip is allowed to sink back into the water and create too much stick to make the fly cast very good or even cast at all. When done properly this is the absolute easiest technique for steelhead in my opinion because with the light anchor, which is an anchor set well within a rods length away in the high slow sweep. Very slow, extremely slow, slower than you would imagine this is what takes some experimentation but it gives you such a light anchor with a heavy fly and it jumps right off the rod if there is a proper power application with the bottom and top hand and the proper casting length, the proper casting stroke length, you will soon be the best caster you know
