Canon Eugeniusz Synowiec ------------------------------------------------------------------ Words from the Gospel According to Saint Matthew Jesus, seeing the crowds, had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to heal every disease and every infirmity. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, called Peter, and his brother Andrew; then James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John; then Philip and Bartholomew; then Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him. Jesus sent out these Twelve and instructed them: "Do not go to the Gentiles, and do not enter any Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Go and proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give." This is the word of the Lord.
