In this Video we have enumerated the common causes of pain and swelling in the knee joint following an Injury . The most common causes of Knee swelling are ligamentous injury(ACL,PCL,MCL,LCL tears),meniscus injury(Medial Meniscus and Lateral Meniscus), Cartilage Injury(Chondral, Osteochondral Injury) Patella Dislocation (MPFL injury). All the most common causes of Knee Injury are described in detail. The Message that we want to give with this video is that one should take any swelling in the knee after an injury seriously and not lightly. After an injury an X Ray should be done to rule out any fracture, if there is any fracture it should be treated accordingly. But even if there is not any fracture , an MRI is must to evaluate the soft structures inside the knee. MRI becomes imperative to diagnosis in these cases. MRI will guide us regarding furthre diagnosis. So if your X ray is normal after a knee injury and you have a swelling an MRI scan must be done . Depending on the injury in the MRI scan, further treatment will be planned. Many cases will need just rest and pain medications. Some of the injuries may need Arthroscopic Treatment.
