Newfoundland Breed Profile - Expert Dog Training & Dog Health Tips | S7 Ep1 | Pooches at Play

This week's breed in focus is the Newfoundland, also affectionately known as the Newfie. Dog trainer and dog behaviourist, Lara Shannon, and Veterinarian Dr Melissa Meehan share all you need to know about this gentle giant of the dog world. Helping to share the Newfoundland story is the loveable Hugo! The Newfoundland originated on the east coast of Canada and were used to pull carts of wood from the forest and fishing nets out of the water. The Newfie is a giant dog breed that can weigh up to 60 kilos! Despite this, the Newfoundland is gentle and placid so they make fantastic family pets and generally love children although you need to watch toddlers around them who can easily be bowled over due to a Newfie’s sheer strength and size. Lara and Dr Mel share their expert advice on the best training and exercise methods required for the Newfoundland. Also find out about their feed and grooming requirements, along with possible health issues which may arise in this giant breed. So, if you have a Newfoundland or are considering getting one, please watch this video to see if the Newfie is indeed the right breed for you!
