Lake Powell has transformed this part of Utah in ways few people expected. Years ago, Hite was a busy gateway to Lake Powell. Boats launched here, visitors stopped here, and the reservoir stretched far into the upper reaches of Glen Canyon. Today, much of that is gone. In this video, I travel to Hite and North Wash to document a major moment in the area's history: the opening of a new boat ramp that could shape the future of recreation access to Cataract Canyon and the upper Colorado River. Why are state and federal officials investing in this remote location? What does it mean for Hite? And what does it tell us about the future of Lake Powell as water levels, recreation, and infrastructure continue to change?
