The A4 B9 was officially unveiled online in late June 2015. In September 2015, the vehicle was presented to the public at the International Motor Show and, in the same year, received the Golden Steering Wheel award in the mid-size car category. For the first time in the A4's history, the sedan and station wagon versions (Avant) were released simultaneously. Audi delivered the first vehicles in October 2015. The B9 is based on the Volkswagen Group's further developed modular longitudinal platform (MLB platform), "MLB Evo," which also underpins the second generation of the Audi Q7, launched in June 2015. The B9 series is manufactured at two production sites. While the sedan, Avant, and S models roll off the assembly line at the Audi plant in Ingolstadt, only the sedan is built in Neckarsulm. The Audi A4 B9 has the model series code F4 in its VIN. According to the manufacturer, the increased use of hot-formed steel and aluminum components has reduced the weight of the Avant by up to 120 kilograms compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, the five-link front axle has been further developed and its weight reduced by six kilograms. Instead of a trapezoidal-link rear axle, the B9 uses a five-link rear axle that is five kilograms lighter. The electromechanical steering system is a new development and weighs 3.5 kilograms less than its predecessor. The drag coefficient (Cd) of the body is 0.23 (sedan) and 0.26 (Avant). For the first time, a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is offered in the A4. This four-cylinder unit with direct gasoline injection produces 110 kW (150 hp) and is said to consume up to 21 percent less fuel than the 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with 125 kW (170 hp) in the previous model. Unlike the 2.0-liter gasoline engine, this one again features a timing belt, which, according to the manufacturer, is maintenance-free. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in the B9 delivers 140 kW (190 hp) and 185 kW (252 hp). Compared to its predecessor, the compression ratio has been increased from 9.7 to 11.7:1 to further reduce fuel consumption. A variant of the 2.0-liter engine designed for compressed natural gas (CNG) operation, producing 125 kW (170 hp), was introduced with the A4 Avant g-tron in August 2017. According to the manufacturer, the CNG variant has a range of 500 km on CNG, while the 25-liter gasoline tank provides an additional 450 km. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine delivers 110 kW (150 hp) and 140 kW (190 hp). As with its predecessor, this model meets the Euro 6 emissions standard using an SCR catalytic converter and AdBlue additive. The AdBlue tank has a capacity of 12 liters (compared to 20.5 liters in the previous model). A 24-liter tank is available as an option. In 2016, another 2.0-liter TDI variant with 90 kW (122 hp) was introduced. The revised 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine was initially offered with 200 kW (272 hp) and all-wheel drive (quattro). A further power output of 160 kW (218 hp) and front-wheel drive was released at the market launch in October 2015, which was later supplemented by a quattro variant.
