Genesis 34: When Silence Becomes Complicity

When evil happens and a father says nothing, what does that silence cost? Genesis 34 makes you feel the answer. In this teaching from our series through Genesis, we work through one of the most difficult passages in the book: the assault of Dinah and the silence of Jacob. The story is hard to read, and it is supposed to be. We trace a recurring motif of silence across Genesis, and watch the consequences grow more devastating each time. Then we turn to the remedy. The answer to sinful silence is not revenge, and it is not passivity. It is prophetic proclamation: planting your feet, naming injustice for what it is, and fighting for the dignity of every person the way Jesus did.
