His story is a great example for all of us who must live by faith. Abraham was the son of Terah and was born in Mesopotamia. Abraham's family lived in the city of Ur but later migrated to the city of Haran. While still living in Ur of the Chaldeans, Abraham was called by God to leave his family and head for Canaan. Abraham, the father of faith, received word from the Lord, but it was only after a while that he finally set out for Canaan. Upon hearing the Lord's call, Abraham also received the promise of a large number of descendants. The problem was that Abraham was already an elderly man and his wife was barren. But God fulfilled his promise, and in due time, against all odds, Abraham and Sarah became the parents of Isaac. Given all this, some people think that Abraham, the father of faith, had an easy and peaceful life. Quite the opposite! He had to face many challenges and overcome many difficulties. True faith is a gift from God that is perfected over time. And so it was with Abraham, the father of faith, who had to learn a lot about trusting God before he could take great steps of faith. Abraham was far from perfect, but he was perfected to such an extent that he saw God's Word as his most valuable possession. Abraham's descendants gave rise to the people of Israel, and from Israel came Jesus Christ. In this sense, God's promises to Abraham are fully fulfilled only in Christ, who brings together not merely a physical descendant of Abraham, but a spiritual descendant. This means that all those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are spiritual descendants of Abraham. Therefore, Abraham is considered the father of faith, that is, the ancestor of all those who truly believe for salvation.
