Mason Proffit - Live In Concert (c. March 1971)

I sure hope there's a special place in Heaven for the individual who had the foresight to make this recording. Besides the second side of the Rockfish Crossing album this is the only other live recording I know of on these guys. Notes say this is an audience recording but it sounds MUCH better than that description would lead you to believe. Unknown location or date. While introducing "Old Libby", Terry Talbot says that their second album is being released in a couple of weeks. "Movin' Toward Happiness" was listed as a new release in the April 10, 1971 issue of Billboard. Taking Terry literally, I'd date this to the latter part of March. Several songs here were new to me. They don't appear on any of their albums nor could I find any copyright registrations on them. There are a couple of instrumentals, one of which starts out sounding like "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" but quickly veers off into something else. The other is another "Old Joe Clark", the breakdown that made up the second half of the album cut. Vintage accounts of Mason Proffit shows recount their liveliness and rapport with their audience. Sounds like these guys were having a party that night -- band and crowd. Unknown lineage on this one, but the digital transfer from which this upload is derived comes courtesy of trader "Captain Ten Hits".
