Ünal Öztürk, a geophysical engineer in the Burhaniye district of Balıkesir, began producing drilling machines when he couldn't import the machinery he used in his profession from Italy. Öztürk, who also exports his machines abroad, has now made life easier for olive growers with his harvesting machines. As the Burhaniye district of Balıkesir, one of Türkiye's major olive production centers, experiences a boom year for olives, the machines Ünal Öztürk developed have made life easier for growers. Mounted on the PTO shaft of a tractor, the machines can harvest up to 8 tons of crops per day. Öztürk explained that he began producing harvesters four years ago, noting that the machines can handle the harvesting effort of 25-30 people. Olive producer Ahmet Simav also noted that the machines make harvesting easier. Ahmet Simav, explaining that the machine can harvest up to 8 tons of olives, said, "I'm an olive producer. These machines replace 10 machines compared to electric ones. On average, they can harvest 2.5 to 8 tons of olives, depending on the day. Harvesting is a bit difficult this year, but these machines have made it much easier. We're continuing. There's no rain. Our harvest is very difficult right now, but using machinery has made it easier. We can harvest between 2.5 and 8 tons of olives a day." Machine manufacturer Ünal Öztürk said, “We came to Burhaniye from Istanbul as geologists. We continued building drilling machines in Burhaniye. I saw that the olive harvest in this area was problematic. We started building olive harvesting machines here. We've been making them for four years. We sell them to our farmers. They use them and are happy with them. We made a certain amount this year. We're waiting for our farmers. They're still being sold. They're quite productive in the fields. We're helping our farmers by building 12 machines last year and 12 more this year. Our farmers are getting better yields than with the old machines.
